Widows Center

Security Fence

Security Fence

  • We are excited to announce that we have completed the purchase of buildings to house our widows. The next phase is to modify the buildings and convert the former school into housing for 165 people and to furnish them. The cost to modify the buildings into 50 housing units and 2 dormitories is $180,000 (plans available upon request). To furnish with beds, mattresses, bedding, and a dresser is $35,000

  • We are still in need of funding to build a fence around the orphanage for the children's safety. We currently have a temporary fence constructed with corrugated tin that provides some privacy. However, due to recent breeches of the current fence, we desire to build a more permanent fence constructed with building stones to provide better security. $8750 to complete.

Chicken Coop & Chickens

Chicken Coop & Chickens

  • We want to puchase a chicken for each child that we have (41). The children will be responsible for the care of their chicken and manage the sale of the eggs they produce. We need to build a sectioned off chicken coop and purchase the chickens. The approximate cost for this project is $1500.

Planting Crops

Chicken Coop & Chickens

Chicken Coop & Chickens

  • The Maasai Tribe has given us the use of 4 1/2 acres of land to plant crops on. This will allow us to plant corn, beans. sugar cane, and greens. Our objective is for the orphanage and the widows' center to be self-sufficient and planting our own crops will allow us to do that. Right now the monthly food budget at the orphanage (41 children) is $1630 and the projected monthly for the widows center (49 widows plus 116 children) is $6765. This is unsustainable with the current support level that we have. However, growing our own crops will give us a surplus in food. The cost to plant on those 4 1/2 acres is approximately $7500 ($1650 per acre),  which includes plowing labor, seed, and fertilizer. We also want to purchase 3 dairy cows that will cost an additional $6000 to provide additional nourishment for the people in our care. This is an urgent need.
