Planting Crops

- The Maasai Tribe has given us the use of 4 1/2 acres of land to plant crops on. This will allow us to plant corn, beans. sugar cane, and greens. Our objective is for the orphanage and the widows' center to be self-sufficient and planting our own crops will allow us to do that. Right now the monthly food budget at the orphanage (41 children) is $1630 and the projected monthly for the widows center (49 widows plus 116 children) is $6765. This is unsustainable with the current support level that we have. However, growing our own crops will give us a surplus in food. The cost to plant on those 4 1/2 acres is approximately $7500 ($1650 per acre), which includes plowing labor, seed, and fertilizer. We also want to purchase 3 dairy cows that will cost an additional $6000 to provide additional nourishment for the people in our care. This is an urgent need.
